What is the difference between managed and unmanaged hosting?

What is the difference between managed and unmanaged hosting?
The managed server is a service that includes continuous maintenance of hardware, software, and a dedicated server. The hosting provider bundles additional services and products with the server to provide a deeper level of management. Managed dedicated server providers dedicate full-time system administrators who maintain dedicated servers. In short, you buy a server and pay monthly/annual fee to keep it running (it's like a contract)

A provider like Rackspace, to manage it, lined charge up to $ 100 / month only. Do not think that they will constantly install and work the goods according to their order. They will define their role in the beginning of the contract and will ensure that the promise they have made is going on all the time.

Unmanaged servers, on the other hand, are just plain vanilla boxes which are nothing but any OS you like. Now, you need to set up your hands all the dirty, environment, libraries, equipment etc.

If you are good with the management of the server or if your company's people are able to do this for you then it will be an economic solution. Hardware, bandwidth, some level of security and payment backup are quite common features that you will find with unmanaged servers.

Financially, because your host is providing a dedicated or shared unmanaged server, they can only charge for something that is being given. Managed servers (provider companies) require the necessary engineers who monitor, configure and handle their servers with the sole responsibility of keeping the server at all times. They pay a small amount for their efforts.
Unmanaged hosting is cheaper because there’s no management – i.e. no routine support. The host will replace failed components, reboot servers, maintain the network and keep the lights on, but it won’t support any software or install anything for you.
