Here's a tutorial that I used when I was looking on how to do the same thing.

Hope it helps you.

Quote:1. Create an empty text file using a text editor such as notepad, and save it as htaccess.txt.

2. Edit the contents of the file. Check the following examples:

301 (Permanent) Redirect: Point an entire site to a different URL on a permanent basis. This is the most common type of redirect and is useful in most situations. In this example, we are redirecting to the "mt-example.com" domain:

Code:
# This allows you to redirect your entire website to any other domain
Redirect 301 / http://mt-example.com/

302 (Temporary) Redirect: Point an entire site to a different temporary URL. This is useful for SEO purposes when you have a temporary landing page and plan to switch back to your main landing page at a later date:

Code:
# This allows you to redirect your entire website to any other domain
Redirect 302 / http://mt-example.com/

Thanks a lot Chad Smile So, it means I have to add Custom domain name in the .txt file and I guess 301 redirect is for me. I want a permanent redirect.

And one more question - I have several blog posts, so they will get also get redirect or not!!! That's the issue...Will I need to change their permalink structure....So confused ???

I did the same thing a year ago with my blog. Didn't have to change the permalink structure.

Oh! that means URL will also change with the redirect.

I mean to say like this-

Previous URL: example.subdomain.com/review/post.html

After uploading .htaccess file on server-

Current URL: example.com/review/post.html Smile

That's good to hear.

If your using control panel such as cPanel then you can also redirect your website from your control panel. You can setup a redirect from "Redirects" feature located under Domains section of cPanel.
